The Edison Local School District, for the first time since 1977, has passed an operating levy that will allow the district to remain financially solvent for the next five years. We appreciate the support the residents of the district have given to the students of our district.
The district is also moving forward with the ongoing changes in the state and country with preparing our students for the twenty-first century. We are completing our second year of ECAT, the district's version of online learning. We have provided an educational opportunity to students in our district who prefer not to be educated in a traditional setting.
The district is excited to introduce two new programs to the students of the Edison Local School District in the fall of 2014. The district will be piloting a Blended Learning approach to education where a select group of juniors and seniors will participate in the new and exciting approach to learning. This traditional and non-traditional approach will allow our students to not attend school in the traditional setting one day a week. In return they will be required to complete a project-based assignment or online lesson. This approach will empower our students to work independently as we prepare them to be college and career ready. We will also introduce our students to the newest initiative being implemented in the State of Ohio. The Positive Behavior Intervention & Support, also known as PBIS, will allow our teachers and students to incorporate a broad range of systemic and individualized strategies that are appropriate for achieving important social and learning outcomes to problem behaviors.
Edison High School continues to offer enriched educational opportunities to students in grades eight through twelve. Our Quality Core program allows students beginning in their eight grade year, to take high school classes for credit. This allows them to complete their high school requirements by the end of their junior year. Students can also participate in Dual Enrollment courses for college credit in their junior and senior years on the campus of Edison High School. Any student who fully participates in the Quality Core/Dual Enrollment programs can earn up to forty hours of college credit prior to graduation without leaving Edison High School. The Quality Core program has also assisted our students in better preparing for the ACT test. This rigorous program allows our students to learn to discipline and prepare themselves for the test. The implementation of the Quality Core program has allowed us to raise our ACT scores by one point in the first two years of implementation.
The Edison Local School District has embraced the changes occurring in education and is better preparing our students to be college and/or career ready upon graduation. The entire staff and student body in the Edison Local School District are committed to excellence in education.

Olivia Ault is a student in the JCESC VI unit located at Hills Elementary, Indian Creek Local School District. Olivia is a kindergarten student from Edison Local School District who has a cortical visual impairment (CVI) due to a stroke at birth.
Olivia was chosen to participate with a VI technology device,Lilly LightAide, on a trial basis. The Lily LightAide is a device consisting of 200 LED lights which assists students with VI impairments in identifying and learning shapes, letters, numbers, colors and many other activities.
After the trial usage period, a voting contest was held among six participants who had been selected to use the Lily LightAide device. The contest was based on which child received the most votes on the Lily LightAide website. With television coverage from WTOV9, WTRF7, and the Herald Star newspaper, Team Olivia (as her family and friends called themselves) rallied the votes. Olivia received an amazing 49% of the vote. Due to her winning the vote, Olivia will now be united permanently with Lily!
The community came together in a great way to assist Olivia. Mrs. Ault, Olivia’s mother, is going to share Lily LightAide with other students in the classroom so they may benefit from its usage also.
