Toronto City Schools have had an exciting year. With building and completing our new 6-12 building, we opened after Labor Day. It was worth it. We were able to have our students enter the new facility. The aggressive schedule for completion was met. We opened on time and under budget. This enabled us to request to pave additional parking at the new site, other additions we thought not possible, and paving of part of the former Toronto High School site.
The building required additional lockers from the original plans. The district enrollment went from 873 to 993 for PS-12 from 2012-13 to 2013-14. Most of this was due to open enrollment gains. We now house all our students at Karaffa Elementary (PS-05) and the new Toronto Jr./Sr. High (06-12) on our south campus. Our newly renovated stadium and baseball complex are at our north facility. Paving and a green area now will be seen where the former Toronto High has stood since 1925.
All pictures from 1924 until the present have been reframed and rehung in the new facility. This is a promise to our pubic to preserve the tradition of 90 years of composites. We also are displaying these on our website and have a link where individuals may purchase a disk of these through Newbrough.
We have embraced the Ohio Teacher and Administrative Evaluation systems as part of being a Race to the Top District. We continue with our Success for All reading program. It is our effort to provide the best education for each student. "Respect the T in Toronto" shows our value for tradition.
We believe, as we have been told, we’re the best kept secret in the valley. We certainly work hard to retain that reputation.
We consistently work to develop partnerships with civic groups like Kiwanis, Lions, Historical Society, Alumni Society, Ministerial Association and others, and without the help of the mayor and city officials, building would never have been that easy or smooth.
What we have is a district we are proud of each day. What we strive for is a community that shares this opinion. So many of our students take post-secondary options and earn college credit at the same time as graduation requirements. So many of our former graduates have done so well in the outside world. This will be exhibited as we welcome back Red Knights for the 5 Year Reunion scheduled on Labor Day weekend 2014. Lastly, we thank our taxpayers; without their support, none of this would be possible.
We know we are not perfect. We work hard to correct our weaknesses and continually seek to make opportunities from our challenges.
