Steubenville City School District Mourns the Loss of Principal Margie Radakovich
Veteran teacher and administrator Margie Radakovich died on February 19, 2014 of a heart attack after a brief illness.
During her career, Mrs. Radakovich served as a reading and math teacher at Harding Middle School, Dean of Girls, Principal of McKinley, Roosevelt, East Garfield and Wells Academy. She most recently served as a Success for All coach for the district and was instrumental in implementing the SFA program in the city schools.
Over time, Mrs. Radakovich served more than 7,500 students during her tenure.

SHS Drama Club Presents: "A Christmas Carol"
The Musical
The Steubenville High School Drama Club presented "A Christmas Carol - The Musical" before a standing room only audience in the high school auditorium. The musical, based upon the timeless story by Charles Dickens, portrays the miser Ebenezer Scrooge visited by the ghost of his dead partner Jacob Marley. The Ghost of Christmas Past, the Ghost of Christmas Present and the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come visit Scrooge, showing him the poor situation of his exploited employee Bob Cratchit's family and the fate that awaits him if he doesn't change his ways.
Some 92 students participated in the musical, either on stage, in the orchestra or behind the scenes. The lead roles saw John Boyle as Ebenezer Scrooge, Dominic DiCarlo as Bob Cratchit and Colin Bise as Tiny Tim. From the opening selection "London Town Carol" to the streets of London ending "Finale," the musical production thrilled the audience.
Congratulations to Director Mr. Scott Wolodkin, Asst. Director Mrs. Julie Battistel, Asst. Music Director Ms. Abby Andresen and the cast of students from Steubenville High School and Wells Academy Elementary School on a job well done. It was a truly wonderful production.
SCS Board of Education Recognition
As part of School Board Appreciation Month, the Steubenville Board of Education was formally recognized and thanked recently at their January re-organization board meeting.
Carmie Biasi, President of the Senior Class, thanked the board members for their continued dedication to the education of all Steubenville City Schools students. She presented them with certificates that read:
"We, the students of Steubenville City Schools, benefit every day from your service to our district. You all make personal sacrifices and spend countless hours tending to board business so that we students receive an excellent education."

New for the School Year: Community Eligibility Option
We are pleased to announce that the Steubenville City School District implemented a new option available to schools participating in the National School Lunch and School Breakfast Programs called the Community Eligibility Option. With the program, all of our students, from elementary school to high school, can receive a healthy breakfast and lunch at school each day at no charge to their households.

Harding Middle School: Power Teaching Partnership
Harding Middle School has joined the "Official Power Teaching i3 Partnership" with Old Dominion University, Johns Hopkins University and the Success for All Foundation to pilot Power Teaching for mathematics instruction.
Power Teaching is a researched based, multiple day teaching framework that uses proven instructional strategies to increase student achievement.

Steubenville City Schools Recognize Four During Pathfinders Assembly
Steubenville City Schools recognized Thomas Gaines, Helen L. Jackson-Gillison, Claudia Holmes and Lester Hicks as “Pathfinders” during the recent assembly held in the Steubenville High School auditorium.
Mr. Gaines graduated from Steubenville High School in 1969. He currently serves as an associate professor of English at John Hazen White School of Arts and Sciences at Johnson & Wales University in Rhode Island.
Mrs. Jackson-Gillison was the first black female to establish a private law practice in Weirton, WV. She presented the school with two books from the West Virginia Black School Hall of Fame.
Mrs. Holmes currently serves as a social educator in the Steubenville City Schools. She told the audience that she came from a very supportive family where education and faith have been at the forefront.
Mr. Hicks was unable to attend this year's Pathfinders Assembly so he asked his friend Nate Freeman Sr. to accept the award for him. Mr. Freeman offered the perfect closing to the 22nd annual assembly with two words: "Roll Red."
